dinner with the allens

dinner time is usually an interesting time at the Allen household. I try and do my best to have the kids fed or at least in their high chairs by the time greg gets home 630ish. it's hard to get much else done before then... because my kids don't nap very well, they're usually zonked by 7pm. oddly enough, both kids perk up when greg walks in the door, probably because he actually pays them some attention. ;) once we sit down for dinner, the kids usually play nice and cause their own little ruckus....15 minutes later, we typically have a man down. below are a couple of shots of the typical evening at our house....

Finally Open!!

Miss Virginia 2030

We're so excited that the pools finally opened this weekend! jud & ing and cousin lucy hosted us today at Belle Haven and it was nice spend such a beautiful day outside with everyone. Lucy did a great job modeling her bathing suit (see above) and showing colton, sulley, and linus just how fun it is to play in the pool.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABA!!!

We know we're a few hours early with this birthday wish but we thought we'd carry on the tradition of being the first to wish you a happy birthday! We know you're a busy grandma when you visit but thanks for always finding time to play with us. We look forward to sharing more goodies and iced tea with you again soon. We hope granddad takes you out to a fancy dinner. We love you!

getting adjusted

so we moved this past weekend and we're slowly getting adjusted! thanks to gigi and baba, we're more settled than we ever dreamed we'd be almost a week after moving in! the kids have been sleeping well in their new room and seem to enjoy a little more space. i think they're just really excited to have more baby gates to hang on/swing on, etc. we need to invest in some yard toys so i guess we'll add that to our laundry list of To Do's and purchases!

no other news really with the kiddos -- i can FINALLY feel colton's bottom teeth coming in and also sulley has been a grumpy pants the past two days probably because her 3rd top toofie is poking through her gums.

we'll post some pictures this wknd while we're out enjoying our new 'hood. it's ironic how much it reminds me of one of my old hoods in SC!

now we just need to work on moving all our friends to our neck of the woods!

cinco de mayo

what better way to spend a rainy, tuesday afternoon in may than to gather some friends and head to Guapos for an impromptu cinco de mayo celebration! it was certainly a sight to see ---seven high chairs, margaritas, sangria, and baby snacks galore!!! it was cute for a while, especially when the kids were dancing in their high chairs as the marachi band played but eventually turned messy as the glasses were knocked over and food was everywhere on the floor! did anyone really care? probably not.

Movin on up...

Well we're movin on up,
To the north side.
To a deluxe home in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the north side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin',
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues,
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby,
There ain't nothin wrong with that.

Azaleas in our yard

ok enough of my shenanigans.. seriously though, we are gearing up for the big move just a few miles down the street. i can hardly believe that we're finally moving into our little abode!! a little sad leaving fairlington since it's been our home for almost 5 years but shoot, it's time! we are busting at the seems here in this condo.

our home (name TBD -- yeah we're naming it just like a beach house) will continue to be a work in progress but that's ok. we're not sure if the orange paint in our kitchen will stay but now it's fine... window treatments, wall decor, etc will come in time. our yard is super nice and green but it is begining to look like a jungle; therefore, buying a lawn mower or finding some neighborhood kid who works for pennies is top priority. im excited to try and turn my 'black' thumb into a green thumb....and honestly, im just excited to have an excuse to drive all the way out to merrifield family garden center. YAY :) greg is soooo excited too! he LOVES driving 45 minutes to walk around and look at random crap -- hey hun, at least you get free popcorn! any who's back to the yard -- we do have some beautiful azaleas, tulips and other random shrubbery. i am also going to be reading all i can on horticulture and also taking on a few projects around the house -- like stamping our concrete floor on our screened in porch area and also starting an herb garden. i also would like to find the PERFECT chandelier/light fixture for our eating area - modern chic. we do need some new furniture but i think we'll wait until our kids are past the stage of wrecking it -- you know standing, ripping, puking on, spilling milk, or just torturing our things for a while.

i'll post some pics soon of the house - probably one of the four of us standing outside in front of it - all in matching outfits, greg and colton will be in matching john johns and sulley and i will be in matching mom/daughter dresses! can't hurt to go ahead and get the christmas card pic out of the way --- or maybe we'll send 4th of july cards out.

ps - i wonder how long it'll take us to get our new furry friend!?!?
